Unlike some of my much more focused and dedicated friends, I did not finish a novel for NaNoWriMo.(Congrats Jon) It was not just because I was an idiot and decided to tack on NaBloPoMo and NoJoMo at the same time. I actually finished the latter and was very close to finishing NaBloPoMo, at least I tried. It just was not the right time for me to try to complete the NaNoWriMo project.

My mind wanted to write something else after the first few days, and I just was not ready to do that yet. I did not stop writing entirely, so the project will be completed sooner than if I had not endeavored to dust off the idea and pursue it, but it happens to the best of us.

Minus the bits where I was clearly writing an entirely different story, I enjoyed getting back into the swing of producing something everyday. The NoJoMo entries were the part I actually looked forward to, simply because they were more personal. It was perfect timing for that, which may be the reason I did finish it.

While all this was happening, I was privileged enough to help gut a commercial building. Even though that endeavor had been behind schedule for some time, with the quick demo we have it back on track. Now we just have to wait on certain professionals to bring the building up to code.

November was packed with me trying to write as if my life depended on it and breaking things with power tools. Fun times indeed.

40% 60%

You are more right-brained than left-brained. The right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. In addition to being known as right-brained, you are also known as a creative thinker who uses feeling and intuition to gather information. You retain this information through the use of images and patterns. You are able to visualize the “whole” picture first, and then work backwards to put the pieces together to create the “whole” picture. Your thought process can appear quite illogical and meandering. The problem-solving techniques that you use involve free association, which is often very innovative and creative. The routes taken to arrive at your conclusions are completely opposite to what a left-brained person would be accustomed. You probably find it easy to express yourself using art, dance, or music. Some occupations usually held by a right-brained person are forest ranger, athlete, beautician, actor/actress, craftsman, and artist.

I have been staring at a blank page for several days, disappointed that nothing interesting has come to me. Almost halfway through the month and the things posted in this blog could just be relocated twitter posts. It shames me a bit to admit that I seem to be able to produce little more than a few choppy sentences here and there, while I can ramble on for days elsewhere.

The biggest hurdle I can think of is one of the reasons I wanted to have this blog in the first place. I wanted to share opinions on things without it having to have a niche blog spin to it. I have been blogging off and on for years, but having it be available under my name and not some pseudonym is still a bit new and quite intimidating to me. After attempting to instead embrace that, I realize I either want to just rant about something or just bullet point out what I have been doing. Unfortunately, this is mostly due to timing.

Even though I knew better, I still made the decision to do the November writing challenges while we have been gutting the freshly acquired commercial building. Placing these things on top of already occupied time slots was an impulsive idea that only serves as an exhausting distraction. But sometimes stupid ideas are still good for something. The challenges helped me figure out what I was struggling with for so long on the-writing-project-that-will-probably-never-be-completed and I am trying a different approach to solving the blank page problem.

It is either that or delirium. Whatever works.

Aesthetic

You appreciate art, beauty, and design; you know that they are not superficial but absolutely crucial to living the good life. You have good taste, and you’re proud of it. Those with a high score on the “aesthetic” trait are often employed in literary or artistic professions, enjoy domestic activities — doing things around the house — and are enthusiastic about the arts, reading, and travel.

You don’t think it’s pretentious to be moved by art and beauty. You’re not one of those who believe it doesn’t matter what something looks like as long as it does its job.

Creative

You are good at solving problems, coming up with original ideas, and seeing connections between things, connections that most other people miss. People with a high score on the “creative” trait often are employed in such fields as finance and scientific research, and enjoy avant garde and classical music as well as literary fiction and scholarly non-fiction.

You do not shun abstractions and concepts in favor of the concrete and tangible.

Intellectual

You are thoughtful, rational, and comfortable in the world of ideas. People find you interesting to talk to. You’re the living embodiment of the saying “You learn something new every day.” In general, those with a high score on the “intellectual” trait are employed in such fields as teaching and research, and are enthusiastic about reading, foreign films, and classical music.

You do not avoid abstract conversation, experimenting with new ideas, or studying new things. It bores you to stick to the straight and narrow of what you already know.

Sympathetic

You have a knack for knowing what’s going on in the hearts and minds of those around you, without their having to tell you explicitly. People tend to turn to you with their problems because they know you care, and that you will likely offer good advice and a helping hand.

You do not feel that people with sad stories are just looking for attention, or have brought their problems upon themselves.

Original

You are constantly coming up with new ideas. For you, the world as it exists is just a jumping-off place; what’s going on inside your mind is often more interesting than what’s going on outside.

You don’t feel that the road to success is to be a realist and stick to the program; you never stop yourself from coming up with new ideas or telling the world what you’re thinking about.

Curious

You like to get to the bottom of things. You’re not content knowing what someone did; you want to know why they did it.

You don’t simply take things as they are and move on; you’re not content skimming along on the surface; you don’t feel you’re wasting time by digging for the meaning of things.

Solitary

You are a private person, not very comfortable in a big group, and view excessive socializing as a waste of time.

You not prefer hanging out with others to spending time alone; you do not tend to feel at home in a crowded room, club, stadium, or auditorium.

Understanding

You are willing to take the time to find out what’s going on with other people, especially if they’re in distress. You’re a good listener, you don’t criticize, and you offer unbiased, respectful, honest advice when it’s requested. With a high score on the “understanding” trait, it is likely that you are enthusiastic about charitable work, helping others, and making the world a better place.

You don’t feel the need to impose your standards on others or say things that, even though true, cause pain.

Empathetic

You are in touch with your own feelings, which helps put you in touch with the feelings of others.

You don’t buy the logic that your happiness comes ahead of everyone else’s because unless you’re happy you’re incapable of making anyone else happy.

Impulsive

You trust your your instincts. What others may see as rash behavior is, for you, simply going with your gut. Individuals with a high score on the “impulsive” trait tend to try new, sometimes outrageous, things.

You are not timid. For you, spending time microscopically examining the pros and cons of every decision means never getting anything accomplished.

Fun times.
The schedule has been a bit adventurous, but we are sticking pretty close to it.
So close yet still months of work ahead.

I think after all these years of nomming those things like they are overrunning the planet, even the best of them are making me nauseous.

This makes me sad.

Almost as bad as when my body decided it was getting tired of dairy products.
